Gay agenda bills die with no hearings during 2011 Florida Legislative Session. Supporter emails reinforced opposition to state sanctioned public policies that sought to legitimize homosexual relations.

Gay agenda bills die with no hearings during 2011 Florida Legislative Session.

Your emails reinforced opposition to state sanctioned public policies that could have legitimized homosexual relations.

Our goal was to make sure these bills did not make any political gains.

Florida Family Association opposed the following bills during the 2011 Florida Legislative Session which ends May 6th:

•    HB 337 & SB 348 entitled Domestic Partnerships were being pushed by homosexual activists to essentially legalize same sex marriage in Florida.
•    HB 361 and SB 346 sought to add “gender identity” and “sexual orientation” as special classes to Florida’s discrimination laws.

Did these bills have a chance of passing in this predominately conservative Florida Legislature?  No they did not.  However, legislation similar to SB 346 was approved by a Florida Senate Committee during the 2009 session with the support of four Republicans.  Click here to read May 2009 report on that situation.   That gain in one committee was politically unacceptable and if left unattended would have set a dangerous precedent.  We promptly targeted the next Senate committee where the bill was headed next that year.

Florida Family Association will not take it for granted that any legislative leadership will prevent gay agenda bills from advancing and gaining political steam.  Therefore, we issued two email alerts on these bills.  FFA supporters sent a total of 17,368 emails to Florida legislators in opposition to these bills.

NONE of these bills made it onto a committee agenda.  The gay agenda bills were not heard this session.

Florida Family Association’s goal in 2011 was to make sure these bills did not make any progress.   A special thanks to everyone who sent emails in response to Florida Family Association’s email alerts.
