Senate Majority Leader John Thune refused to call for a standing filibuster to insure the SAVE America Act comes to closure for vote on the senate floor.
Senator Thune said that a standing filibuster will disrupt the business of the Senate. He said that it would eat up valuable time that the Senate needs to approve the DHS budget.
Ironically, Democrats are using the silent filibuster rule to prevent approval of the DHS budget. The US Senate failed by a 51-45 vote to approve the DHS budget for a third time on March 5, 2026. The Democrats want to defund ICE as part of the DHS funding bill. Given the outrageous demands of Democrats it looks like the senate needs to deploy the Standing Filibuster to approve the DHS Budget.
What conservative or MAGA oriented legislation can the US Senate possibly succeed in approving with the Democrats holding on to a silent filibuster? NOT A THING!! The US Senate has only passed one conservative bill, the One Big, Beautiful Bill, since January 2025.
The Way the Filibuster is now. The current procedure allows a quiet filibuster to stop legislation from being voted on. A vote is taken to end the quiet filibuster. Unless 60 votes are cast to end the filibuster the legislation does not move forward.
The Way the Filibuster used to be and needs to be changed to. Many in GOP leadership have called for a standing filibuster, which is how it was in the beginning, where senators stand at the senate floor podium and speak against or for the legislation. When there is no one else to speak, the debate is officially closed and a simple majority vote is cast to approve or reject the legislation.
What better message is there to educate the super majority of Americans who support the SAVE America Act than for them to watch Democrats line up hours on end to defend allowing fraudsters and illegal aliens to vote?

Democrats tried to eliminate the filibuster in January 2022 and would have succeeded but for opposition by Senators Manchin and Sinema. Many top Democrats have proclaimed numerous times that they plan to abolish the filibuster if they take control of the senate so they can add more states to the union which means more liberal US Senators and add more liberal justices to the supreme court. We cannot stop that from happening in the future but what we can do is take advantage of the GOP holding the house majority, senate majority and white house to pass the SAVE America Act, DHS budget and other important legislation.
Florida Family Association supported the filibuster until January 2022 when the Democratic controlled Senate attempted to abolish the filibuster. The Democrats would have had enough votes had it not been for Senators Manchin and Sinema who opposed it. Florida Family Association OPPOSED eliminating the filibuster with email campaigns to Manchin and Sinema.
However, both of these senators are gone. Ruben Gallego, who is hard left, replaced Sinema. Democrats have pledged to abolish the filibuster. In the meanwhile, our side sits on their thumbs while yielding to the left agenda. If even one Democrat senator actually opposed changing the filibuster we may look at it differently. But all Democrats support killing the filibuster. We are wasting valuable legislative time while the GOP holds all seats at the table.

If Senate Majority Leader Thune and a few other alleged hold out Republican Senators fail to make the vote happen on the SAVE America Act their inaction will be a major reason why Democrats gain more votes and take control of congress on November 3, 2026.
Thune and the GOP need to make Democrats stand up and defend what they believe regarding the SAVE America Act and then take the vote. Americans deserve nothing less.
