Great News!  Your emails made a difference.  January 28, 2026, Senate Majority Leader John Thune announced his support for a modified, more restrictive version of the Safeguard American Voter Eligibility (SAVE) Act.   

Florida Family Association launched two email campaigns in January 2026 to urge GOP US Senators and US Senate Majority Leader John Thune to take a full vote on Safeguard American Voter Eligibility (SAVE) Act.  Thousands of emails were sent in response to these two Florida Family Association alerts.

While the original version passed by the House in April focused on requiring documentary proof of citizenship (such as a passport or birth certificate) at the time of voter registration, Senator Thune intends to expand the bill's requirements.  Key updates to the legislation include:

•    National Photo ID Standard: The amended bill would require voters to present a photo ID not just to register, but also at the "actual ballot box" when casting their vote.

•    Addressing Loopholes: Thune stated the current bill lacks robust requirements for proof of residency and photo identification at the time of voting, which he intends to "fix and address" in the new version.

•    Timeline for Vote: Although currently in the committee process, Thune confirmed a "high level of interest" among Senate Republicans and pledged to bring the upgraded bill to a floor vote once the modifications are finalized. 

Additionally, on January 29, 2026, Congressman Chip Roy (R-TX-21) and Senator Mike Lee (R-UT) introduced the SAVE America Act—a new and improved version of their widely supported SAVE Act. The SAVE America Act adds a Voter ID requirement for voting in federal elections while maintaining the original bill’s proof-of-citizenship requirement for voter registration.  

IT IS CRUCIAL that we send follow up emails to urge GOP Senators to make sure that the full US Senate votes on  the SAVE America Act well before midterm elections on November 3, 2026.  

Law abiding, conservative and MAGA voters will be very disappointed if the SAVE America Act is not moved for a full Senate vote well before midterm elections.  If the full US Senate fails to vote on this important legislation it will hurt voter turnout and how these electors vote on November 3, 2026.
