The Republican lead US House and US Senate approved the budget resolution framework for what is called the One Big, Beautiful Bill.  It contains the 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act renewal, border and immigration reform, energy deregulation, increased military spending, tax exemptions for social security, etc.

Florida Family Association email subscribers sent approximately 12,000 emails that urged each member of the House Freedom Caucus to make passage of President Trump’s campaign commitments a priority as the House resolved legislative differences with the Senate version of the budget resolution.

Now voter expectations are even higher and the downside of disappointing them could be even steeper for Republicans in the 2026 elections if they fail to make this happen.

The federal budget in 2018 was $4.1 trillion compared to $6.75 trillion in 2024.  The federal budget increased $2.65 trillion or by 65% which is irresponsible.   The US population in 2018 was 326.8 million compared to 340.01 million in 2024.  The US population increased by 13.3 million or 4%.  The federal budget increased at a rate that was 16 times higher than that of the population increase from 2018 to 2024. 

Both the Senate and House need to have realistic expectations regarding expenditure reductions as they write the details of the budget resolution that must be approved by both chambers.

The $8 billion budget expenditure reduction proposed by the Senate is barely a half of a percent of the $1.5 trillion budget expenditure reduction proposed by the House.  The Senate certainly needs to have more realistic expectations regarding more budget expenditure reductions.

Most of the US House of Representatives who are most concerned about cutting expenditures are members of the House Freedom Caucus.  That is why this email alert is focused on communicating with the members of the House Freedom Caucus.

President Trump’s 2024 Presidential campaign heavily promoted federal income tax exemptions for social security benefits, tips and overtime.  These three exemptions came under fire by members of the House Freedom Caucus.  The House Freedom Caucus appears to hold key votes on Trump’s agenda given that the first House budget resolution passed on a margin of only 2 votes.  The caucus members are concerned that these exemptions will increase the national debt.  There is great virtue in wanting to decrease the national debt.  The Freedom Caucus’ role in keeping the pressure on congress to balance the budget and reduce the national debt is crucial to the future of America.  On the other hand, reducing income taxes on millions of retirees, disabled and low income tip earners would go a long way to help millions of Americans meet their financial needs especially housing.
