HISTORY OF FLORIDA FAMILY ASSOCIATION'S SUPPORT FOR THE LITIGATION OPPOSING OBAMACARE
Florida Family Association has sent out four mail alerts since December 2009 to rally public support for legal action opposing the Affordable Care Act. These email alerts have influenced supporters to send thousands of emails to Florida Attorney General Bill McCollum, U.S. District Court Judge James Vinson and newly elected Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi.
First email alert: Florida Family Association initiated an email alert shortly after Bill McCollum publicly expressed concern on December 29, 2009 about the constitutionality of the health care proposal. This email alert encouraged supporters to send emails to thank Bill McCollum for his position and to encourage him to move forward. His office received thousands of emails from Florida Family Association supporters. Florida Family Association was the only pro-family organization in Florida that initiated this call to action. Bill McCollum subsequently escalated his public opposition to the health care proposal and filed suit after the legislation was enacted.
Second email alert: Florida Family Association sent out an email alert on September 21, 2010 that asked supporters to send emails to encourage U.S. District Judge Roger Vinson to keep alive the Florida Attorney General’s lawsuit which challenges the constitutionality of President Obama’s Affordable Care Act. Florida Family Association supporters sent thousands of emails to Judge Vinson regarding the unconstitutional mandate of the nationalized health care legislation.
The Associated Press reported on October 14, 2010 in part regarding Judge Vinson’s ruling: “PENSACOLA, Fla. (AP) — Crucial pieces of a lawsuit challenging the Obama administration's health care overhaul can go to trial, with a judge ruling Thursday he wants to hear more arguments over whether it's constitutional to force citizens to buy health insurance. In a written ruling, U.S. District Judge Roger Vinson said it also needs to be decided whether it's constitutional to penalize people who do not buy insurance with taxes and to require states to expand their Medicaid programs. ”
Third email alert: Florida Family Association sent out an email alert on October 15, 2010 that asked supporters to send emails to thank U.S. District Judge Roger Vinson for his October 14, 2010 ruling where he determined that the court needs to decide whether it's constitutional to penalize people who do not buy insurance with taxes and to require states to expand their Medicaid programs.
Fourth email alert: Florida Family Association sent out an email alert on January 19, 2011 to thank newly elected Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi for allowing six more states to join the legal challenge against the Affordable Health Care Act and for her decision to continue to vigorously prosecute this case.
