ADT advertisements drop from Al Jazeera America.  Emails and calls to corporate office made the difference.

The multitude of ADT advertisements that once aired almost every hour on Al Jazeera America have stopped.  No ADT advertisements have aired in the last twenty six hours.  Florida Family Association promised to report the results of this effort at 1:00 PM EDST.

A special thanks to everyone who sent emails, made phone calls and dropped their service.   Your support of this effort truly made THE difference.

Campaing history

ADT responded to public concern regarding their advertisements appearing on Al Jazeera America.

ADT send out an email, posted below, that claims "we do not anticipate that additional ADT Security Services advertisements will run on CurrentTV."  ADT sent their email out at 9:01 am this morning, April 10, 2013.

However, Florida Family Association taped another ADT advertisement on Al Jazeera America at 10:20 am, or more than an hour after the company said there should be no more ads.  Additionally, Mr. Gursahaney sent an email to Florida Family Association at 1:40 am on Tuesday, April 9, 2013 which stated the same "we do not anticipate that additional ADT Security Services advertisements will run on CurrentTV."  However, ADT ads ran all day and all night on April 9, 2013 and into April 10, 2013 after Mr. Gursahaney’s email was sent to Florida Family Association.

Florida Family Association will tape and monitor another 30 hours of programming between now and Friday, April 12, 2012.   A report will be sent out by email alert and posted at Floridafamily.org on Friday, April 12th regarding ADT advertising on Al Jazeera America.

Thank you for your email. The Florida Family Association's assertion that "ADT Security is top advertiser on Al Jazeera America" is inaccurate. ADT does not buy advertising on specific news networks. While ADT advertisements did air on CurrentTV, which may change its name to Al Jazeera America, those ads were part of news cluster packages purchased from DISH, DirectTV and AT&T that also included Fox News, Fox Business, CNN, CNBC, MSNBC and other news channels. Because the news cluster package purchases have run their course, we do not anticipate that additional ADT Security Services advertisements will run on CurrentTV.

We appreciate you being an ADT customer and value your feedback. We also value and serve a diverse marketplace. Diversity and inclusion, including freedom of speech and religion, are important principles at ADT.

Regards,

Tony Wells
Chief Marketing Officer
ADT Security Services

ADT's explanation fails to adequately explain why so many of their ads appeared on this channel and why they did not respond sooner.

ADT erroneously claims "those ads were part of news cluster packages purchased from DISH, DirectTV and AT&T."  However, Florida Family Association did NOT tape ADT ads from DISH, DirectTV and AT&T. Florida Family Association is currently monitoring Comcast which is the largest land line cable company in America.  Many of the advertisers are the same nonetheless.   The emails sent from the Florida Family Association office to ADT officials prior to launching the email campaign clearly state that the content was recorded from Comcast channel 107.

Additionally, ADT ignored initial emails from the Florida Family Association office and thousands of emails and phone calls regarding this situation.  They did not respond until over 1,000 ADT customers made it clear they would drop ADT if their advertising continued.  Florida Family Association also informed ADT that a campaign would be started on April 15th to encourage their largest reseller to drop ADT.  Florida Family Association was also planning a picket.

More than a thousand people have informed Florida Family Association that they may change their security service from ADT if the company continues to advertise on Al Jazeera America aka CurrentTV.  Many people have asked Florida Family Association to keep them informed on ADT’s advertising so that they can make an educated decision regarding future patronage.

MORE ADT advertisements aired on Al Jazeera America on:
04/10/2013 during the 6:00 am and 10:00 am shows; 04/09/2013 during the 6:00 am, 8:00 am and 9:00 am shows; 04/08/2013 during the 6:00 am and 9:00 am shows; 04/05/2013 during the 06:00 am, 09:00 am, 10:00 am and 11:00 am shows; 04/04/2013 during the 7:00 am and 09:00 pm shows; and April 3 during the 6:00 pm and 9:00 pm shows.

Florida Family Association informed ADT that it would recommend that customers switch to another security services company after April 15, 2013 if ADT continued to advertise on Al Jazeera America.  Additionally, Florida Family Association informed ADT officials that it would encourage the public to urge ADT’s largest reseller to stop doing business with company.  Furthermore, a picket is being planned for the corporate office and other locations.

ADT is a top advertiser on Al Jazeera America.
Al Jazeera, the Arabic news cable channel headquartered in the Middle East (Doha, Qatar), purchased the CurrentTV channel which has the potential of reaching millions of viewers in the United States.  Al Jazeera is the mouthpiece for radical Islamists.  Al Jazeera America is the new, tentative name for CurrentTV.

ADT certainly has the right to choose where they spend their advertising dollars.  You have the same right to object and choose another security company.   Florida Family Association has prepared an email for you to send to nine ADT officials.

The action email for this campaign has been deactivated.
